Trevor & Anita Haines have owned the business since 1986 taking over from Arthur Youdell who established the business in the 1970’s. Trevor studied for a fine art degree at Sheffield University, gaining his Batchelor of Arts in 1979. Trevor came to know Arthur Youdell through his own art works which Arthur displayed and sold in the gallery. After leaving university Trevor worked part time in the shop mainly helping with the framing. Part-time became full-time and on Arthur’s retirement Trevor & Anita purchased the business.

Trevor's practical and art background has enabled him to offer a framing service second to none. Over the twenty years of working in the shop Anita has gained an extensive knowledge of art material products and suppliers. The upstairs and cellar gallery offer a large range of original and reproductions by local and national artists.

Thornthwaite Galleries, Thornthwaite, Nr Keswick

Owned by Oliver and Paula Chalker, Thornthwaite Galeries is a contemporary art gallery showcasing exhibits of many local artists'. It is situated in the village of Thornthwaite just outside Keswick in Cumbria, the heart of the English Lake District. For forty years we have been a major attraction in the Lake District, a country gallery and a true centre of excellence for artists wanting to exhibit the very best.
The gallery is housed in a 200 year old Cumbrian bank barn. In addition to paintings, both original and prints, exhibits include Jewellery, Wood turning, Sculptures (metal, ceramic and wood), Furniture, Glassware, Pottery, Photographs, Beadwork, Silk scarves, Greetings Cards & Books. The changing exhibits over the years have responded to the subtle shifts in cultural expectations which inevitably takes place from season to season and continues to reflect the ever evolving tastes of the contemporary market. In addition to the artistic exhibits, the Gallery offers an extensive range of giftware. Gift tokens of £10 and upwards, are available from the Gallery and provide the solution to those more difficult gift problems. The gallery is fully accessible to visitors with disabilities via an external ramp for wheelchairs and those who find difficulties with steps. The Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater

The famous Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater is situated in a magical place, nestling amongst the stunning fells in the heart of the North West Lake District just a short distance from the Lakes of Loweswater and Crummock Water. Providing food and shelter since Tudor times.

We have eleven rooms in total, seven in the main inn, a family suite of two rooms in our adjoining annex and two premium rooms with separate access. All rooms are well maintained and tastefully decorated and furnished. They are all individual and have a cosy cottage feel as befits a 16th Century Inn.
All are en-suite. There are no dedicated singles, all rooms can be let for single occupancy. Rooms do not have televisions but there is a separate sitting room with a television.

Kirkstile's team of six chefs are serious about good food. We have a deserved reputation for unpretentious, home-cooked meals and place great emphasis on local Cumbrian and Lake District suppliers. We also boast one of the most famous bars in the Lake District, and one of the greatest beer gardens! Our brewery Cumbrian Legendary Ales produces the 2011 Champion Golden Ale of Britain, Loweswater Gold and our bar normally has a range of 6 cask beers available. The Kirkstone Pass Inn, Ambleside

Providing great food, accomodation and a selection of real ales, the Kirkstone Pass Inn is the highest inhabited building in Cumbria and the third highest Inn in England. The Sun Inn, Pooley Bridge, Ullswater

The Inn was converted from a row of cottages in the 1700s by the original proprietor Edward Richardson. Since then the Inn has changed hands several times, and was taken over in May 2010 by John & Jane McGuire.The Sun is a family run establishment. Sunny by name and by nature, this is one of the most friendly and cheery hostelries in the region. It is a sizeable whitewashed building with grey framed windows, which in summer are draped with vibrantly coloured hanging baskets. Inside, the décor is simple and warm with low beamed ceilings, wooden tables and chairs and wood paneled walls and bar.
We have nine en suite bedrooms - four doubles, three twins, and two singles.

It has a spacious beer garden and a grassy area at the rear with a fantastic wooden childrens play fort. It also has its own car park, which is strictly for patrons.

The Sun Inn is renowned for its Real Ales and has been awarded the Cask Marque and features in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Several are available from the local Jennings Brewery. Regular ales include Cumberland Ale, Snecklifter, Cock-a-Hoop and a constantly changing guest ale. For the non Real Ale drinkers, there is Jennings Smooth, Peroni, Stella, Carling, Strongbow and Guinness extra cold.

Free Wi-Fi connection is now available in the bar area. Well behaved dogs are welcome in our lower bar and garden area.
